Semiannual Examinations:

We want to keep all our patients and your loved family members healthy for as long as possible. To help us achieve this, we encourage you to bring your pet in twice a year even when they dont appear to be sick. Regular surveillance screening includes a full physical exam to assess your pets overall health, performing tests on a urine sample at one visit and a blood sample at the other, discuss preventative health measures with you and perhaps pick up any changes that are occurring too slowly to notice on a day-to-day basis. Since pets age much faster than us, it is still only equivalent to people seeing the doctor or dentist every three to four years.  The testing we perform allows us to keep track of your pets internal health and potentially detect and treat diseases at an early stage before your pet becomes sick.

- Urine test: This gives us information on your pets kidney function, as well as markers for diabetes, urinary tract infections, thyroid and adrenal gland function.

- Blood tests: Blood tests give us a wide variety of information on your pets internal organs such as their kidneys, liver, pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, as well as about their blood stream and immune system.

- Blood pressure: This gives us information about heart, kidney and thyroid function.

Early detection through surveillance allows us to pick up if your pet has a problem hidden inside, and so we can treat before they get sick. Often early changes and management can be achieved just through diet changes, and if medication is required, it is typically much less involved than if a problem was picked up once it had got worse. Overall, we can help keep your pet happier and healthier for longer.
